Is it spring yet...

Seems like everyone here has been battling a bug! A while back I had pneumonia and now some of my kids have bad coughs and sniffles. So in between dealing with illness, trying to fit a bit of schooling in here and there, I thought I'd share what's on my sewing table and ideas I have for spring. Whenever it chooses to finally arrive and stay awhile that is... ha! ha!

Just off my sewing table today I finished up my blocks for our block exchange at the shop. I rather like most of them. We'll see what I get in return...

If you're interested in making this block you can hop over to my other blog at http://parklandparish.blogspot.com/#!/2013/05/friendship-star-block.html for the tutorial.

The other projects I have been working on, are these quick fun applique wall hangings. This is the June one, and the next Thimbleberries project quilt. I also took a Prepared Hand Applique class the other night and will have to post that project later! It's too cute!

Just need to fix my goof and add the last couple of borders and it will be done!! At least the top, that is!! Lastly I've been dreaming of a fairy garden in my front flower bed. Now that I received my new book, my kids are excited too! LOTS of cool fairies, including Ninja fairies!! The boys are really hooked on that!

What are you working on? I'd love to read your comments and see what you and your brood are working on! Enjoy your many blessings!! TTFN!

Junior Olympic Archery Developement...

What kind of activities do your kids participate in? Most kids I know are in sports, scouts, 4H, theatre, etc. But have you ever heard of Junior Olympic Archery Developement (JOAD)? It's a wonderful program to youth 8 years to adult to learn, compete and take part in achery events. Three of my kids participate in this program now. My youngest two just earned their first outdoor range badges.

For more information and JOAD teams in your area, check them out at http://www.teamusa.org/USA-Archery/Programs/Junior-Olympic-Archery-Development/Where-to-Begin.aspx

Here are some reflections from our day...

Happy homeschool and enjoy your blessings every day!

Mom & Me Camp...

This past weekend I was able to spend some quality time with one of my little boys at Mom & Me Camp. It was lots of fun and the older Boy Scouts putting on the camp did a great job!! It was a great learning experience. As homeschooling mom's we spend loads of time with our kids, however my son really suprised me on this weekend. We did lots of fun things and when I asked him what his favorite thing was that we did it was a pleasant suprise.

On the weekend the boys made kalidescopes, went on a nature walk, learned about and made fire, did archery and shot bee bee guns. I expected my son's favorite thing to be the fire, archery or the bee bee guns, however I was completely wrong! His favorite thing was the nature hike and identifying plants, animals, etc. That totally blew my mind. But it just goes to show how much you can learn by taking the time to do one on one things with each of your children.

Here are some photos of our weekend! Happy learning!

Revisiting...

I've been down with pneumonia for a few weeks and I've really been thinking about what I've been spending my time doing. I really miss this blog and I'm thinking that I need to make time for fitting it in to our routine. So with that I'm going to share our glorious weekend!

For most folks today us May 5th and if you need a reason to celebrate it was Cinco de Mayo. However if you're an Orthodox Christian today was the biggest feast day of the year! I know many folks think Christmas is the biggest Christian holiday, but for my family it's Pascha! Great Lent, Holy week and the final culmination of Pascha is... there are just no words to describe the specialness and the holiness of the time.

Here are some reflections of the past two days for a glimps into our special season!

It was a glorious day, beautiful, great company, wonderful food, all and all a day to remember! For those of you who are Othodox Christians, Christ IS Risen! Have a blessed Bright Week and Pascha Season!

This is the day of resurrection!
Let us be illumined by the feast!
Let us embrace each other!
Let us call “brothers” even those that hate us,
and forgive all by the resurrection,
and so let us cry:
“Christ is risen from the dead,
trampling down death by death,
and upon those in the tombs bestowing life!”

OHOP Indian Village...

Amongst all the other things I'm doing these days we are fitting in school. Some days I can't believe we get everything done! But my kids are definitely troopers! I wouldn't be able to do all that I do if they didn't pitch in and help out! It's definitely a blessing!!!

My 7 year old is a Wolf Scout this year and we were all able to attend this months outing. It was very interesting and I think the kids had a great time.

Indians summer home...

Making an arrow head on a rock...

Making jewelry from beans and dry pasta...

Playing an Indian drum...

It was a fun day in the rain! We got to grind corn into flour and pound cedar into soft pieces that would then be used for clothing or blankets. It's great when you can learn by doing. This is a wonderful museum. If you're in Washington State you should check it out!

It's been along time...

Wow, it's been a long time! There's been lots going in on in our home. Big changes and adjustments. They've all been good, however my blogging time has been greatly reduced. At least for this blog. A few month I took on a new job. I have to admit it's the best job of my life, where I've worked outside of my home. I get to do fun, "me" stuff. I get to include my kids and I get to make extra money! I mean what could be better!! If you want to see what I'm up to you can visit me at the blog that takes up all my time...  http://parklandparish.blogspot.com/

As far as school goes, we've had a good start to our year. We are studying the ancients and so we were able to make it to the King Tut exhibit. It was amazing. Here's some photos...

Hope you're having a good year so far and hopefully I'll be posting again soon! Enjoy your day!
